Adjustments to the student housing policy and related supporting measures were discussed during the 2023 Joint Student Dormitory Leaders Meeting. In consideration of the College of Education's relocation to the main campus in the 114th academic year, corresponding housing policies will be adjusted accordingly. Since the existing dormitory capacity at the main campus cannot accommodate all students from both campuses, and in order to optimize the use of space across the two campuses, students will be able to choose dormitories at either the main campus or the Nanda campus.
Feedback from student dormitory leaders and student union representatives was gathered and incorporated during the adjustment process. The policy was also discussed and clarified in a series of meetings, including five Joint Student Dormitory Leaders Meetings, two Student Dormitory Committee Meetings, and two Student Affairs Committee Meetings. After thorough discussion and the completion of administrative procedures, the new policy was approved during a University Affairs Meeting and officially announced in the second semester of the 2023 academic year. Additionally, to better understand student needs, a forum was held on May 8, 2024, to collect student feedback.
Key Adjustments in the Housing Policy:
Students (excluding those from the College of the Arts) may freely choose dormitories on either the main campus or the Nanda campus. Options such as quiet rooms, single rooms, and suites are now included as part of the housing preferences students can rank. A unified application portal has been introduced to streamline the application process for greater convenience.
All applicants, regardless of whether they have housing priority, will apply individually. Dormitory placement will be determined by a computerized random selection process. These adjustments aim to simplify the application process, ensure a fair lottery system, and allow students to receive timely confirmation of housing placement (for both the main and Nanda campuses), facilitating early planning. Additionally, preference ranking and a swap mechanism will be provided to give students more flexibility in their choices.
Transportation and Facility Improvements:
To meet transportation needs between the two campuses, the university plans to increase the number of shuttle bus trips by more than 20 per day starting in the 114th academic year. Shuttle schedules will also be adjusted based on students' course schedules. Meanwhile, dormitory facilities at the Nanda campus have been improved, including:
Installation of new elevators in Shude and Chongshan Dormitories
Complete replacement of washers and dryers
Curtain upgrades in Shude Dormitory
Raised bed railings in Mingfeng and Yingxi Dormitories
Painting and beautification of public spaces in Shude Dormitory
Window replacements in Yingxi and Juyue Dormitories
Regular mold prevention and repainting in dormitories
These upgrades aim to provide a more comfortable living environment, with further renovations and maintenance ongoing.
The under-construction Meizhai Dormitory is also scheduled for completion and operation by the 118th academic year, which is expected to further alleviate housing demand and enhance overall student satisfaction.
Housing Regulations and Enforcement:According to Article 9, Subparagraph D, Item d of the Dorm Rules for NTHU: "Unauthorized transfer of bed space, allowing others to use bed space under false pretenses, or posting messages to sell or transfer bed space" is considered a violation. Such behavior will result in point deductions and immediate expulsion from the dormitory. If there is evidence of bed sales for profit, please report it to the Housing Office, which will investigate and handle the situation in accordance with regulations to protect all students' housing rights.
The university adheres to the principle of fair distribution of dormitory resources to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to obtain housing. To better understand housing demand and gather suggestions, an annual housing survey is conducted. System functions and policies are adjusted based on application trends and student feedback through an ongoing review process. Students are encouraged to share their opinions for future reference and continuous improvement.
